Where the colour comes from
Pink in laboratory-grown diamond usually comes from nitrogen-vacancy colour centres created after growth. A CVD diamond is grown, then treated with controlled irradiation and annealing so the centres absorb green-yellow light and the stone shows pink to purplish pink.
Usual method: CVD, with post-growth treatment (disclosed).
What to know when buying
- Stable in wear. The colour is stable under normal light and wear.
- Bench heat. Ask jewellers to avoid very high heat on the stone during re-tipping or repair.
- Matching. Pinks vary from soft to vivid and can lean purple; specify the range you want.

Are lab-grown pink diamonds treated?
Most are. Pink lab-grown diamonds are usually CVD diamonds given a post-growth treatment that creates the pink colour. We disclose it and grading reports note it.
Do you disclose post-growth treatment?
Yes. Some CVD diamonds are treated after growth to improve colour. We tell you which stones are as-grown and which are treated, and independent grading reports note it.
